U.S. Soccer expands performance analysis efforts and partners with ProZone
As part of its commitment to improve the development of players in the United States, U.S. Soccer has reached an agreement with ProZone for analysis of all matches of the Men’s National Team, Major League Soccer (MLS) and Development Academy Showcases.
As part of a long-term strategy for U.S. Soccer, ProZone will provide comprehensive performance analysis using its advanced data capturing systems to create an objective assessment of player and referee performance.
Under the deal, ProZone will process every MLS game in the coming season (a total of 210 games) using the state-of-the-art Matchviewer software.
The U.S. Men’s National Team will receive analysis of each match played and head coach Bob Bradley will have access to the analysis of every MLS match. US Soccer will then make the data available to each of the fourteen MLS clubs.
Paul Tamberino, Brian Hall and Alfred Kleinaitis from U.S. Soccer’s Referee Department, will be using ProZone to analyse the performance of referees each week in MLS and the performance of up-and-coming referees at each Development Academy Showcase.
Development Academy teams will receive video analysis from all of their eight Showcase matches enabling them to track progress over the course of the year and provide Academy coaches with insight to improve both their team play and the performance of individual players. All information will also be made available to U.S. National Team scouts and coaches for player identification purposes.
According to ProZone’s Blake Wooster, applying the analysis at the national, professional and developmental levels will establish an unparalleled consistency of analysis of the game in the United States.
“The development of soccer in the United States has occurred at an extremely rapid pace,” said Wooster. “Now, by engaging ProZone to supply wide ranging insights and analysis, U.S. Soccer will be poised to continue their rise to higher levels of the sport. By applying the system to the Development Academy Program, MLS and the Men’s National Team, the Federation will have the opportunity to develop consistent and objective measurements of players to demonstrate how they can improve. This same philosophy will apply to the development of referees.”
For ProZone, the partnership creates the foundation from which to execute a U.S. growth strategy over the coming years and they will be establishing an office in Chicago to work hand in hand with U.S. Soccer.
