Orlando Pirates coach De Sa praises Prozone insights
Roger De Sa, coach of reigning South African Premier Division champions Orlando Pirates, recently praised the insights provided by Prozone performance analysis products.
Supporting a number of PSL clubs as well as the men’s and women’s national teams from our Amisco-managed office in South Africa, we’re dedicated to leading the development of performance analysis in the country.
Speaking about the rapid technological developments that have taken place within coaching in recent years, De Sa said, “In my time it was all about running 10 laps or doing 100 push ups…At [Moroka] Swallows I never saw a ball on a Monday or Tuesday, just cones, but today, even though soccer is a team sport, it’s all about individuals.”
A former South African international and goalkeeper for clubs such as Moroka Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns, De Sa’s recent appointment at Orlando Stadium sees him take charge of his third club following previous spells with Wits University and Santos.
“…Using the Prozone system when a game ends, I can tell you everything about every player, how many times he’s touched the ball, who passed it and how much he ran during ninety minutes,” said De Sa. “I can also pick up when someone is being lazy, but the thing is you can’t judge it only by those results. Remember, there are many contributing factors such as did he play midweek? What was his job? Who was the opponent?”
