Prozone analyse over 6000 games every season across the world offering an unrivalled global player database to aid the player recruitment process.
Through use of our objective performance data, Prozone RECRUITER allows Managers, Scouts and Coaches to identify, profile, and benchmark potential transfer targets against player, team, and league averages. With Prozone analysing every game in the MLS, Prozone’s Performance Analysis Centre has used Prozone RECRUITER to compare David Beckham; a much talked about January loan signing for Tottenham Hotspur; to other players within the Tottenham squad, and the Premier League Averages to see how he would fit in to the team.
Using Beckham’s data from his 11 appearances for LA Galaxy in the 2010 Season we have looked at three key performance indicators consistent with attributes of the Right Midfield position; Penalty Area Entries, Final Third Entries, and Crossing; and compared these to the other players to have played Right Midfield for Tottenham this season.
It is worth noting that the data is compared across leagues, MLS vs EPL, and that Beckham’s positional role at LA Galaxy has changed with him playing a more holding and central role.

It is clear to see that Beckham’s average number of Final Third and Penalty area entries is greater than those of the current Tottenham players. Beckham has been averaging 8.17 Final Third Entries per game in the MLS compared to the Premier League average for a Right Midfielder of 5.1. Similarly, when analysing penalty area entries we see Beckham’s average at 11.17 with the Premier League Right midfield average at 7.0 per game.
Following David Bentley’s loan move to Birmingham Beckham could be a suitable replacement. Based on the last 10 games played by Bentley for Tottenham, Bentley’s Final Third and Penalty Area Entries average 6, and 13.4 respectively. However, where Bentley would be seen to be more effective than Beckham is in crossing. Bentley’s average number of crosses per game has been 6.9, in comparison Beckham has produced 3.8 which is the same as the Premier League average so far this season.
Further KPI’s are displayed on Beckham and Bentley below.

The major difference seen is in the success rate of passing. Beckham, known for his range and ability of passing has a success rate of 67.3%, 13.3% below the Premier League Average and 11% lower than Bentley.
