Introducing Prozone Research Advisory Group

Prozone continue to develop performance applications and deliver research insights.

Introducing Prozone Research Advisory Group

As part of Prozone’s continued commitment to sports performance research, leading academics at Liverpool John Moores, UWIC & Teesside Universities joined practitioners from Prozone, the Premier League and the Championship to identify, promote and facilitate key issues in areas of strategic interest to our network of professional clubs.

It is intended that the Prozone Research Advisory Group will exist to bring together industry leading practitioners, academics, and other members of the sports science community with an interest in applied research in order to coordinate studies and further knowledge through the creation of collaborative research partnerships. Academic research has always been an important part of Prozone’s commitment to performance analysis, making use of and extending the body of knowledge that exists and continually informing best practice.

Our research partnerships have initiated the development of a research agenda and have sought to establish an Advisory Group that brings together these various disciplines. One main aim will be to provide a focal point for the discussion of research issues shared by the organisations and groups involved, and also to encourage the strengthening of existing and the formulation of new links between them.

Will Jones, Senior Analyst at Prozone’s Performance Analysis Centre, identified the importance of providing a forum to share data and information, promote collaboration, and develop a unified research agenda that will meet the needs of all stakeholders;

“With Prozone’s on-going commitment to performance research it is great that we are able to bring such high-quality practitioners and academics together to contribute to the Research Advisory Group. With such valuable inputs from leading individuals in sports research and our continual partnerships with leading University’s in this field, we are sure that Prozone can continue to contribute positively to delivering insightful sports performance research.”

A number of interesting topics have recently being discussed, including data management systems and their use within a football club environment, and  a review of a number of research proposals across different areas, including, performance analysis, physiology and physiotherapy. Prozone were pleased to approve a number of new studies that will be undertaken using Prozone data. Topics such as optimal positioning for referees, repeated-sprint ability & key aspects of tactical play in football will be assessed in these research studies undertaken by Prozone’s academic partners.

If you are interested in the use of Prozone data as part of an academic research project then please contact insight@prozonesports.com. Accepted proposals will be reviewed by the Prozone Research Advisory Group at the next meeting.
